This Week on DVD & Blu-ray (08-16-11)

This week, all kinds of noteworthy names are popping up on the radar! From Polanski to Lebowski to classic Kubrick. Catch up with the latest from Robert Redford with “The Conspirator”, a historical drama revolving around Lincoln’s assassination, or watch Christopher Plummer phone it in while Paul Bettany plays apocalyptic action hero in “Priest”, or see if John Krasinski can figure out what to do with “Something Borrowed”. My recommendations? Check out two new Criterion releases, Roman Polanski’s 1966 film “Cul-De-Sac”, his second English language feature and Stanley Kubrick’s noir classic, “The Killing” from 1956 (both can be found on Netflix’s Watch Instantly right now). And a film that made my Top 5 of 2011 (so far) list, “Jane Eyre” is out now. With a mysterious and earthy tone, director Cary Fukunaga brings a fresh take to a literary classic that’s been adapted countless times. Great performances by Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska make this a fine intro for newbies and a unique perspective for those familiar with the material.

Also, for those dying to get every Stallone film on Blu-ray, today is for you. And who can deny Muppets on Blu-ray? As always, links to reviews are listed below. Enjoy the Rundown….
