This Week on DVD & Blu-ray (12-06-11)

There’s quite a bit to choose from this week, but I can’t recommend you rush to see any of the new releases from this year. Of course, I haven’t seen “The Help” yet, one of the more polarizing movies of the year, but “Cowboys and Aliens” and “The Hangover Part II” failed to live up to the mounting anticipation they both had. I hope that “The Debt” gets more viewers now that it’s finally out. While not a perfect spy flick, it offers some solid performances. I look forward to catching up with “Love, Above All” and “Point Blank” (see trailers below) and continuing to skip the latest Jim Carrey debacle.

Criterion has some notable releases this week. There’s Hitchcock’s darkly comic “The Lady Vanishes” and the pre-Code comedy “Design for Living” starring Gary Cooper and Fredric March, directed by Ernst Lubitsch, adapted from a play by Noel Coward.

Like always, previous reviews are highlighted below. Enjoy the Rundown….
