This week Bennett Miller’s “Moneyball” arrives, a movie that is getting quite a bit of end-of-year praise, and rightly so. It’s an engaging story with a strong screenplay that will win over anyone uninterested in both baseball and math. Also out today, two forgettable movies, “Killer Elite” with Jason Statham, Clive Owen, and Robert DeNiro and “What’s Your Number?” with Anna Faris and Chris Evans. There seems to be a lot of rom-coms coming out on Blu-ray this week, most of them I haven’t seen but they look wretched (Chris Pine was in a movie with Lindsay Lohan – yowza!), but I do have a sweet spot for “Never Been Kissed” with Drew Barrymoore, Luke Wilson, and John C. Reilly. I plan on playing catch-up with “Higher Ground” which is actress Vera Farmiga’s directorial debut as well as one that has recently been brought to my attention, the Romanian film “Aurora” (see trailer below) that is being described as a murder mystery but seems like so much more.
