This Week on DVD & Blu-ray (02-07-12)

February 7, 2012

If you’re still looking for that Christmas High, then you’re in luck this week because Harold and Kumar will help you out in “A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas”. I wasn’t able to catch that one, so I’ll have to wait till next Christmas. Ah well. This week also sees the release of Roland Emmerich’s “Anonymous” which poses that age-old, did Shakespeare or didn’t he? Brought to you by the guy who made “Independence Day” and “Stargate”, naturally. Disney is going to the dogs and throwing Blu-ray a bone by giving their classic “Lady and the Tramp” the upgraded treat. If Irish bare-knuckle brawling, you may want to check out “Knuckle”, and insightful doc that will send you searching for an ice pack. I plan on catching up with “Project Nim”, the new doc by James Marsh (“Man on Wire”) about a chimp named Nim who was assimilated into out world from birth – raised and treated like a human – back in the 70s, as part of an experiment. I heard great things about it and it sounds like a great double-feature with “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”. There’s also a fourth movie about a selfish young woman caught between emo vampires and buff werewolves, this time with a wedding and a baby!

There ya have it, folks! Enjoy the Rundown….

Looks like no Oscar nominated films came out this week – Booooo!

Right – not to mention any films that I reviewed. To be honest, I enjoy these lull weeks – it gives me a chance to catch up on reviewing or viewing. There’s always so much to do of both. Don’t worry though: Jeff Nichols’ “Take Shelter” comes out next week – one of many films that Oscar overlooked. The week after that comes “Martha Marcy May Marlene” (another overlooked film) and the last week of the month has “Hugo” dropping and by then we’ll know who won Best Picture. So, you won’t be doing a whole lot of Oscar-nom’d catch-up on DVD this month.

Hmmm, I was hoping you had reviewed Anonymous, it looks interesting, but I’m just not sure about Emmerich, seems an odd choice for him.

I’m not sure either, and honestly it’s not really high on my high list of films to catch up with.
