This Week on DVD & Blu-ray (04-10-12)

Not much to get excited about here, except an Oscar-winning performance by Meryl Streep in “The Iron Lady” and if you’re up for it, you can check out aliens invading Moscow in the seldom-seen “The Darkest Hour”. Although it’s a weak week, there are still a few interesting releases. There’s a documentary on actress Charlotte Rampling, staring her friends and collaborators and featuring footage of some of her famous films. New on Blu-ray this week: “The Bodyguard” in order to capitalize on the recent death of Whitney Houston, two decent rom-coms, “The Truth About Cats and Dogs” and a Director’s Cut of “Kate and Leopold”, and two Marlon Brando movies “A Streetcar Named Desire” in its Original Restored Version and “Don Juan DeMarco alongside Johnny Depp – one of those is considered a classic. Also out on Blu-ray is Luchino Visconti’s “Conversation Piece”, one of a handful of Italian films starring Burt Lancaster. I have yet to catch up with the Visconti’s work, so this is yet another title that is new to me.
And to prepare for Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” movie, you can purchase the complete collection of the cult classic TV show it’s based on – it’s just 131 discs, collecting all 1,225 episodes and only $419.99 on Amazon currently. Don’t have to think twice about that, huh?

That’s it for this week. Links to previous reviews are highlighted below. Enjoy the Rundown!
