This Week on DVD & Blu-ray (06-18-13)

Director Brian Singer is busy making the next X-Men movie right now, but his much-maligned latest, “Jack the Giant-Slayer”, an action-heavy fairy tale which was already at least a year late when it arrived in theaters this past March, is now out on DVD/Blu-ray. I think  I’d see it to be a Ewan McGregor completist, that’s about it. On that same day, another college party movie was released, from the writers of “The Hangover” (they’re to blame!) and, well, for those you enjoy those kind of flicks seemed to have liked “21 & Over”. While I haven’t seen those yet, I  have fond recollections of “Stoker”, which was South Korean director  Chan-wook Park’s (“Oldboy”) American debut. It’s a stylized and twisted ode to Hitchcock with memorable performances by a game cast, specifically Mia Wasikowska and Mathew Goode. If you’re looking for a well-made thriller, that pays homage to noir tropes, you’ll want to check it out.

There’s other crappy movies from earlier this year out this week like “Movie 43” and “The Last Exorcism Part II”, but  I’m gonna keep it short this week! Previous reviews are highlighted below. Enjoy the Rundown….
