Trailer Tuesday (07-27-10)
July 27, 2010

This past weekend in San Diego, much of the pop culture world converged (or at least paid attention to from afar) at the Comic-Con International, or CCI, or SDCC….whatever ya wanna call it. That was the place to be if you had to promote a popular television series, comic book, or a film currently in production. Originally just for comic book creators, it has become the place for studios, creators and actors to promote their work, make announcements and generate growing buzz. That being the case, this has also been the place where new footage and/or trailers are shown as well.
Let’s look at what new trailers were shown there over the weekend as well as some others that have recently surfaced….
Red
Summit Entertainment released a new trailer for this graphic novel (by Warren Ellis & Cully Hamner) adaptation starring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Morgen Freeman, Mary Louise-Parker and Karl Urban. What a cast! .With this trailer, we find out what “Red” stand for and AND, the we see Ernie Borgnine and Richard Dreyfuss too! I didn’t really need another trailer to confirm my anticipation for this one but this seals the deal. It has a release date of October 15, 2010.
Buried
Ryan Reynolds plays a guy who finds himself waking up six feet under in a coffin with only a lighter and a cell phone. He has no idea why he’s there or who put him there. The film has generated quite the buzz since it premiered earlier this year at Sundance Film Festival. It surfaces in select theaters September 24th and nationwide October 8th.
Let Me In
I wasn’t enthused at all when I heard that Hollywood was remaking the great Swedish film “Let the Right One In” but I gotta say, I like how this looks. Director Matt Reeves (“Cloverfield”) directed the New Mexico-set thriller, that delivers an unconventional coming-of-age thriller that’s got some bit to it. Starring Kodi Smit-McPhee (“The Road”), Chloe Moretz (“Kick-Ass”), and Richard Jenkins (“The Visitor”). Look for the film to come out on October 1st, 2010.
Tron Legacy
This is fast becoming one of the most highly anticipated sequels of the year. Disney’s “Tron” has a loyal fanbase and enough time has passed (nearly three decades!) since the last film to really picque the curiosity. The film stars returning cast members Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner and Cindy Morgan as well as newcomers Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde. Count on amazing CGI in 3D in a video game world where deadly discs whiz past your head just as fast as neon bright light cycles. Here’s the second trailer for a film that comes out just in time for Christmas on December 17, 2010.
Drive Angry 3D
Looks like another bad hair action movie with Nicolas Cage is coming out next year. And it’s his first in 3D! ‘This time “they killed his daughter and took her baby” and now he’s gonna drive around and kill everyone. Yawn. Also stars Amber Heard, Billy Burke, David Morse and William Fichner (possible redeeming qualities, but doubtful) and is scheduled to be released on February 11th, 2011….just in time for Valentine’s Day!
The Goon
Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti lending their voices to the animated adaptation of Eric Powell’s genius paranormal pulp noir comic book? Produced by David Fincher? Count me in! No release date has been announced yet but who cares!
