Trailer Tuesday (09-21-10)

September 21, 2010

Some of these trailers didn’t do much by way of sparking any interest in me but then again there’s an audience for everything….

The Dilemma

Director Ron Howard (Opie Cunninghan to you!) returns to comedy, well….kinda. I mean, this doesn’t look all that funny. It has two of the most annoying male “comedic” leads (Vince Vaughn and Kevin James) working today probably overwhelming two better actors, Jennifer Connelly and Wynona Ryder. The trailer is self-explanatory in showing awful it looks. Ugh. Hold on, what kind of world do we live in when Ryder is hooked up with James? The movie also stars Queen Latifah (I have no idea) and Channing Tatum (eye candy) but really the only reason to maybe check this out is that it was filmed in Chicago. Appropriately, the film opens on January 14, 2011, but hey, look at what that month did for “Paul Blart: Mall Cop”. Talk about Dilemma!

The Roommate

OMG! This trailer got LOL’s when I viewed it before “Devil” (which also got LOL’s). Screen Gems (ha!) will be releasing this upcoming horror chick flick which stars Leighton Meester (“Gossip Girl”) and Minka Kelly (“Friday Night Lights”, the TV series) in an updated version of “Single White Female”,  for the social network age. It’s about a young woman (Kelly) who discovers that her college roommate (Meester) is a psychotic/murderous nutjob. Look for this one to be mandatory viewings for all incoming college freshman. They shoulda titled the film “Friendrz” as unintentionally hilarious as the this trailer. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the movie opens on February 4, 2011.

Casino Jack

Director George Hickenlooper made the awful “Factory Girl” but I’ll still give him a chance with his new film since Kevin Spacey is playing Jack Abramoff, a conning and scheming DC lobbyist who committed fraud to get what he wanted. The film also stars Kelly Preston, Barry Pepper, and the always welcome Jon Lovitz. The film opens in December.

The Fighter

Christian Bale is at it again, losing another 30 lbs. for his latest role. Yeesh! And I bet Mark Wahlberg added some muscle (not much) for this film directed by David O. Russell (“Three Kings”). Based on the unbelievable but true story of boxer “Irish” Micky Ward and his half-brother Dicky. Also starring Amy Adams and Melissa Leo, the film looks to be a sure bet come awards season for Bale and who knows who else. “The Fighter” enters the ring on December 10th.

The Tourist

Oscar-winner director, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (“The Lives of Others”), has brought together Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. It was only a matter of time. The trailer shows Jolie in her usual seductive mode while Depp seems to be in hot water due to mistaken identity. I dunno about this trailer but I’m curious to see these two together. Also look for Paul Bettany, Timothy Dalton, and Rufus Sewell, when it visits theaters come December 10th.
