Trailer Thursday (11-04-10)
Let’s just look at three, shall we? From worst to best. Enjoy….
Gulliver’s Travels
We finally have a look at the latest incarnation of Gulliver’s Travels! This time, Jack Black is portraying the classic big stranger in a strange land run by feisty little people. This is the movie that Emily Blunt left “Iron Man 2” for. Man, she woulda made a great Black Widow. But, I digress….this trailer is….pretty awful. I mean, why see this movie? Okay, granted people will see it and it will be a big hit come Christmas, but if you watch this trailer, you’ve seen the movie. It’s Jack Black at his wackiest, after all. Yeesh, this may wind up right there with the rest of the pile of 3D duds this year. The film also stars Billy Connolly, Jason Segel, and Amanda Peet. Look for it to wash ashore with the rest of the driftwood on December 22nd.
Blitz
Here’s the deal: a tough cop is dispatched to take down a serial killer who has been targeting police officers. Jason Statham is the tough cop. Need you know more? The film also stars Paddy Considine, Aiden Gillen, and Luke Evans. Looks like it will come out early next year.
London Boulevard
What’s this? A clean-shaven, short-haired Colin Ferrell? In a film directed by Oscar-winning scribe William Monahan (The Departed), no less. Based on the book by Ken Bruen, the film tells the story of an ex-con (Farrell) who falls hard for a young actress (Keira Knightley) and finds himself in a messy situation with a gangster as a result. The trailer feels like Guy Ritchie, with a dash of romance. I’ve been interested in Ferrell’s choices since the great “In Bruges”. Dig the supporting players too, Ray Winstone, Stephen Graham, Anna Friel, David Thewlis, Ben Chaplin, and Ophelia Lovibond. The film hits the UK theaters on November 26th, expect a U.S. release sometime in February 2011.
