This Week on DVD & Blu-ray (08-23-11)

August 23, 2011

This is the week where movies you’ve likely never heard of hit the streets. Or if you did, they either skipped out on theaters in your area or they had a very limited release. Mark Ruffalo and Laura Linney reteam for “Sympathy for Delicious”, Keannu Reeves saw his film “Henry’s Crime” come and go like cannoli at an Italian wedding, and then there’s “Blitz”,  yet another Jason Statham action fest. Morgan Spurlock’s latest doc, “POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold” was fun and  “Trollhunter” was alright, but my one recommendation has to be Jodie Foster’s “The Beaver”, which deals with an important subject in a very different way. I’m looking forward to finally catching up with Tom McCarthy’s “Win Win” and both Lee Chang-dong’s “Poetry” from earlier this year, and “Secret Sunshine”, which gets the Criterion treatment.

As always, all reviews are highlighted and linked below. Enjoy the rundown….
Now go forth and conquer your preferred rental or purchasing venue!
But wait! Before you go, check this out and see a.) how hybrids are evil, and b.) how a whole lotta money can be wasted in Hollywood….
