This Week in DVD & Blu-ray (11-08-11)

The Blu-ray releases this week seemed to have usurped any releases from earlier this year, except for Mr. Potter and friends. I’m not talking about “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl” or “The Cannonball Run”, but hey, if those two movies do something for you – by all means, check them out. No, the two Blu-ray releases that standout to me are David Lynch’s “Blue Velvet” and Terry Gilliam’s “The Fisher King”, two very different films with great casts. The most intriguing element of the 25th anniversary of “Blue Velvet” is not the 8-part doc, but rather the 50 minutes of deleted footage! Whoa. Unfortunately, there are no bells and whistles present in Gilliam’s film, his first of the ’90s and one of my favorites, but at least it’ll look good.
