Keeping It Reel Podcast #3 – Independence Day (1996)
July 1, 2012
It was a scorcher this week in Chicago! The day Demetri Kouvalis and I recorded Episode 3 at The Patio Theater it had reached 100 degrees – which accounts for some of our slap-happiness. That and the fact that we were playing it by ear this week. The result was a looser recording with an off the cuff feel. This week, we go back to 1996 to review a movie that we consider to be a summer blockbuster classic. Feel free to refute such a claim. Thanks for all those who’ve been listening. Although we’re having fun, we’re also still getting the hang of it all.
EPISODE THREE:
- Intro – It’s hot! What’s coming soon at The Patio Theater, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “Hoop Dreams” (two Chicago movies!)
- Independence Day (1996) – An alien invasion in which a Black Alpha Male and a Computer Genius Jew save the planet! It went on to win an Oscar for Best Visual Effects and an MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss!
- Discussion – Find out what we’ve been watching, like: 2010’s “Rabbit Hole” with Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart, Pixar’s latest “Brave”, and 2003’s “Lost in Translation” with Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray.
- Announcements: Save the Historic Patio Theater! Kickstarter Campaign update – 19 Days to Go, $35, 790 has been pledged toward a goal of $50, 000!
It may be a little longer than last week, but you can blame that on the heat!
