ANNOUNCEMENT: The 2015 Oscar Nominations!

January 15, 2015

The news is out! “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Birdman” both received 9 nominations, including Best Picture. That was expected. What REALLY happened this morning during the announcement of the 2015 Oscar nominees? Well, the same thing that always happens: surprises and snubs.

While I’m delightfully surprised to see Felicity Jones on the list and so many nominations go to “Whiplash”, it is utterly ridiculous that “The LEGO Movie” did not earn a Best Animated Feature nom or “Life Itself” earn a Best Documentary nom. That’s just crazy. There were other snubs, but those two stand out. At least “Selma” is up for Best Picture, even though it won’t win and the film’s director, Ava DuVernay and lead actor, David Oyelowo, were snubbed as well. And I’m still trying to register where all the love for “American Sniper” is coming from.

The rest of the nominees (certainly not the best of the year) can be found below….
